The Real Question:
Can This Tooth Be Saved?

When a tooth breaks, timing matters. The fracture may be shallow, close to the nerve, below the gumline, or large enough to expose the inside of the tooth to bacteria. We evaluate the tooth, take X-rays, explain the severity, and give you clear options before anything begins.

Your visit is direct: exam, digital X-rays, diagnosis, treatment options, upfront cost review, and same-day urgent treatment when clinically appropriate. If you are nervous about treatment, tell us before we start. Nitrous oxide/laughing gas is available for anxious or nervous patients when clinically appropriate.

Know the Signs

When a Broken Tooth
Needs Prompt Attention

A tiny cosmetic chip may not be urgent. But if the tooth is painful, sharp, sensitive, bleeding, swollen, or hard to chew on, it should be evaluated before the damage spreads.

Pain When Biting

Sharp pain with pressure can mean the tooth has a deeper crack or fracture that needs prompt evaluation.

🔥

Throbbing Pain After the Break

Constant pain may mean the nerve has been irritated, exposed, inflamed, or infected by the fracture.

🌡️

Hot, Cold, or Air Sensitivity

Strong sensitivity may mean enamel or dentin is exposed, leaving the tooth vulnerable to deeper damage.

💥

Large Piece Broken Off

When a significant portion of the tooth is missing, urgent stabilization or treatment may be needed.

🩸

Bleeding or Gum Injury

Bleeding near the broken area can indicate trauma to the gum, tooth, or supporting tissue.

🦠

Swelling Near the Tooth

Swelling near a broken tooth can signal infection, especially if the inside of the tooth is exposed.

You found us because something broke. Call first, walk in, or book online before the crack spreads.

Why You Should Not Wait

A Repairable Tooth Today
May Not Stay Repairable.

Every Bite Can Push the Crack Deeper

Pressure from biting, chewing, or clenching can make a fracture worse. If the crack reaches the nerve, root, or below the gumline, treatment becomes more complicated. Prompt evaluation helps determine whether the tooth can be smoothed, bonded, stabilized, treated with root canal therapy, protected, or removed if it cannot be saved.

📉

Cracks can deepen with every bite, making the tooth harder to restore

🦠

Exposed dentin or pulp allows bacteria inside the tooth and can lead to infection

🦷

A small chip can become a nerve problem if the damage is deeper than it looks

💸

Earlier evaluation is often simpler than waiting until the tooth breaks further

Medication vs. Source Treatment

Pain Pills May Quiet It.
The Broken Tooth Still Needs a Diagnosis.

Many patients try to manage a broken tooth with pain medicine, numbing gel, or antibiotics. Sometimes medication is appropriate, but medication alone does not repair the fracture or protect the tooth from deeper damage.

The Real Goal Is to Treat the Source

A broken tooth needs an exam and X-rays to determine how deep the fracture goes, whether the nerve is involved, whether infection is present, and whether the tooth can be repaired predictably. Pain medicine may reduce symptoms temporarily, and antibiotics may be appropriate for certain infections or swelling — but they do not bond tooth structure back together, seal a crack, rebuild missing tooth, treat an exposed nerve, or remove a non-restorable tooth.

💊

Pain Pills Can Mask Symptoms

Medication may reduce pain temporarily, but biting pressure can continue spreading the fracture underneath.

🦠

Antibiotics Do Not Repair Teeth

Antibiotics do not seal cracks, restore missing tooth structure, protect exposed dentin, or fix a damaged nerve.

🎯

Treatment Targets the Cause

The real solution may be bonding, buildup, root canal treatment, extraction, temporary protection, or staged care based on diagnosis.

🚨

Some Symptoms Need Immediate Help

Serious facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, trouble breathing or swallowing, or rapidly worsening swelling should be evaluated medically right away.

Broken Tooth Patients Ask

Before You Come In,
Common Questions

Everything you need before you call, walk in, or book online.

The cost depends on the exam, X-rays, and treatment needed and is always reviewed with you before treatment begins. You will not be surprised by treatment you did not agree to. Financing through Cherry, CareCredit, and Proceed Finance is available.

Not always. A tiny cosmetic chip without pain may not need same-day care. But a large chip, pain, sensitivity, sharp edges, swelling, bleeding, or a visible crack should be evaluated promptly before the damage gets worse.

In many cases, yes. Same-Day Urgent Treatment Available can include smoothing, bonding, emergency buildup, root canal treatment, temporary protection, or extraction depending on the fracture and clinical findings.

If you have the broken fragment, save it and bring it with you. Place it in milk or saliva if possible. Rinse gently with warm water, avoid chewing on that side, and do not put aspirin directly on the tooth or gum.

Many broken teeth can be saved, but it depends on how deep the fracture goes. If the crack extends below the gumline or into the root, extraction may be needed. We explain your options clearly after exam and X-rays.

Avoid chewing on the broken tooth, hard foods, sticky foods, and testing the tooth with your tongue or another bite. If the edge is sharp, dental or orthodontic wax can help protect your cheek or tongue until you are evaluated.

Yes. Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is available for anxious or nervous patients when clinically appropriate. Let us know when you call, book, or arrive.

We are a fee-for-service office and see patients with and without insurance. Financing is available through Cherry, CareCredit, and Proceed Finance. We can also provide documentation you may submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Go to the ER or call 911 if you have serious facial trauma, suspected jaw fracture, uncontrolled bleeding, trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading into the throat or neck, or you feel severely ill. For a broken, chipped, or cracked tooth without those red flags, call us for urgent dental help.
